All Aboard for Tranquility – A Unique and Magical Stay in the Little Red Caboose at Hideaway on the Hocking!

Lifestyle

My husband Don and I just returned from the most amazing and truly one-of-a-kind getaway at Hideaway on the Hocking in the heart of Guysville, Ohio—and we’re already dreaming about our next visit. If you’re longing for peace, charm, and a little touch of magic, this is your sign to book the trip.

Don loves to surprise me with amazing adventures. He listens and understands me. He goes out of his way to make my dreams come true. This was one of those adventures. And the dream come true? I’ve always wanted to stay in a tiny home. Don did one better than that. We stayed in the Little Red Caboose, one of five beautifully restored vintage train cabooses on the property, and it was pure enchantment. From the moment we stepped inside, we were swept into a whimsical blend of past and present. The interior is shiplap-lined and thoughtfully designed, with modern furnishings, vintage artwork, and all the comforts you’d expect from a high-end getaway. It’s cozy, stylish, and completely unique.

Yes, you’re in a real caboose—sections of the original train track are still in place—but this isn’t some rustic throwback. Each caboose features modern conveniences like Wi-Fi, smart TVs, Bluetooth speakers, heat and A/C, and even thoughtful extras like phone chargers and kitchen essentials you forgot to pack. It’s nostalgia with a fully upgraded twist.

Each caboose includes a wide covered porch and its own fire pit, perfect for evenings under the stars. There are five cabooses in total, each with its own vibe and private nook on the expansive property—offering both community and solitude, depending on what your soul needs most.

Nearby, you’ll find the three river retreats—gorgeous cabins nestled close to the water, where the soundtrack of your stay is birdsong and flowing current. They combine rustic charm with indulgent comfort: wood beams, soft linens, screened-in porches, rocking chairs, fire pits, and fully equipped kitchens. You’re surrounded by nature without sacrificing a thing.

But the surprises don’t stop there.

The property also features The Quarry—a 3,500 square foot indoor/outdoor gathering space ideal for everything from family reunions to yoga sessions to quiet reflection. The entire setting has the rustic soul of a farm, paired with elegant, modern finishes that feel fresh and inviting.

We spent our days hiking over 400 acres of private trails—each one more peaceful and scenic than the last. Scattered throughout the woods are five secret hideouts—whimsical little spots with hammocks, swings, benches, or picnic tables. Some tucked beside creeks, others beneath tall pines—each one feels like a secret waiting just for you.

And just when we thought it couldn’t get better—we were completely spoiled by the owners.

Brent took us on a side-by-side tour of the property, winding through trails and scenic overlooks, sharing stories from his childhood growing up on the very land we were exploring. His pride in the farm, the trails, the hideouts—every detail—was obvious and heartfelt. The conversation was easy, like chatting with an old friend, and it gave our stay a personal, unforgettable layer of connection.

It wasn’t just hospitality—it was genuine warmth. The kind that lingers long after the fire has gone out and you’ve packed your bags. It made us feel like we were more than just guests. We were part of something special.

Don’t miss the historic train depot, now lovingly converted into a cozy welcome lodge. With vintage maps, lanterns, conductor hats, and memorabilia, it’s like stepping into a living museum curated with heart.

And speaking of heart—Brent and Cindy, the incredible owners and hosts, are the soul of this entire experience. Their vision and attention to detail are woven into every inch of the property. You can feel their passion in the landscape, the decor, the ease of the check-in process, and the countless thoughtful touches in every space.

At night, we sat on our porch wrapped in blankets, sipping wine under a sky so clear it felt painted on. The only sounds? The rustle of trees, the occasional owl, and the comforting crackle of the fire.

Hideaway on the Hocking isn’t just a vacation—it’s a full-body exhale.

The kind of place where vintage charm meets modern luxury,

where every detail has been chosen with love,

and where you remember what it feels like to truly slow down.

We didn’t just take a trip.

We found a little piece of magic—and left with full hearts and a longing to return.

The photo above is one of the many professional photos my husband took while visiting Hocking Hills State Park. This is Old Man’s Cave- one of many beautiful waterfalls we saw while hiking in the park, and personally, my favorite. I love the little bridge! As I said, we cannot wait to return to Hideaway on the Hocking! The Mills, here we come!
